The Announcement
June 26th, 2007, posted by FofR

Come May 19th 2007 and the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Seoul, South Korea, Blizzard announced that Starcraft II was officially in development, and they did so with a goose-bump inducing, spine tingling teaser trailer…

Starcraft 2 is to be released on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X… “it’s about time”. This trailer was shortly followed thereafter with some in game footage, which is a rare thing to see in this day and age.

Development of the game itself is at a relatively late stage (rumored to have started back in 2003), and Blizzard had projected a 2007 release date, though this may since have changed - rumors almost certainly confirming a 2008 release. StarCraft II will support sport DirectX 9 with Pixel Shader 2.0 software, as opposed to DirectX 10, although it shall be compatible. Some DirectX 10 graphics effects may yet be included. The Mac client will instead utilize OpenGL. The game will also feature the Havok physics engine, which shall allow for realistic interaction between objects and environments.
